FORMULATION TYPE

Emulsifiable Concentrate - EC

Mode of action

GROUP C I HERBICIDE

Bromoxynil, one of the active ingredients in Fairway is a fast-acting nitrile herbicide (Group C) that works on contact by inhibiting photosynthesis in target plants. The compound is readily absorbed into leaves with little to no downward movement to other plant parts. Susceptible weeds quickly die from the build up of molecules that destroy cell membranes.

The other 2 active ingredients in Fairway is MCPA and dicamba (Group I). These active ingredients are hormone-type selective herbicides in the phenoxy category. MCPA and dicamba provide systemic activity through leaf and root absorption.

They upset the normal hormone balance within the plant. Auxin mimic herbicides cause unregulated plant growth, resulting in symptoms on susceptible plants that include growth and reproduction abnormalities (especially on new growth). Broadleaf weed species exhibit stem and petiole twisting (epinasty), leaf malformations, parallel venation, crinkling, leaf strapping, stem callus formation, and stunted root growth.  Plant death is gradual, due to unconstrained mobilization of reserves, however generally symptoms are observed within 7 - 14 days following application.
